Darling Actress

January 15th, 2008

Yet another theater student, Ms. Wang studies at a Language University in Tongzhou.  The nearby male hair stylists, hawking their business, applauded me for photographing her, describing her as a “true beauty”.  When I asked questions regarding her views of fashion she smiled shyly and her friends told me to make something up that sounded nice.  I’m trying to think of that should be.

She looks ok, at the same time, I raised a question, Why Asian girls (including Chinese, Japanese)always act innocent. Couldn’t we be cooler?

Hmmm, conventional wisdom is that people should dress and act in ways that suit them. Perhaps many Asian girls feel that a cute and gentle look is appropriate. At least in Beijing, the results can be rather unfortunate when girls try to look sexy or cool. “Cool” and “innocent” seem both more subjective than other adjectives.

Which ways are suitable for Asian girls. I really think that it is gross to pretend to be innocent. In my opinion, The meaning of “Cute” in Asia is quite different from America. Cute in America more tends to mean “sexy”, cute in Asia means pretending to be a virgin, actually none of them is.

I’d rather to be described “sweet”
