Unique Scarf at Xidan
January 16th, 2008

I’m not entirely sure if those are the best boots for this outfit, but I find the scarf and collar arrangement to be intriguing.

He was in a hurry, so I didn’t get to ask if he had made it himself.

it has nothing to do with” unique”
He just a unfashionable fag.

Thanks for all of your comments, though perhaps this is one of the ones I should have paused before approving. He’s definitely not fashionable, though that didn’t stop a very attractive young lady from linking arms with him.

Personally, I am not a fan of his style. But there is something interesting or at least vaguely amusing about his look and the expression on his face.
Anyone who has lived in Beijing for a reasonable period of time would know that, this city is far from being a stylish city, but it never fails to intrigue us because of its characters and the characters of its people. I grew up in this city and the development, or rather the “evolution”, of Beijingers’ personal styles has been one of the most exciting aspects to observe over the years.
Everyone developes their own style (hopeufully) and being a rather critical person myself, there are certainly moments when I feel some people’s looks just don’t suit them. However, whether someone is fashionable or not is a rather subjective matter - a look that is unappealing in one corner of the globe might be THE trend in another spot of our world; a look that has been “sentenced” to death by fashion critics this season might be all over the covers of every single fashion magazine a year later.
Sorry for dragging on about my thoughts here, but I feel that personal judgements on aesthetic matters should perhaps be a little bit more elaborate. As various factors, such as social background, education, income level and sexual preference, play an important role in how people develop their style, stressing on one factor alone or defining one’s style by only one factor seem to be somewhat an act of prejudice.
