Pop-up Flea Market: 10/1

Beijing is waking up to the fact that wardrobe space is not unlimited.

To celebrate National Day (10/1), a new shop and studio on Banchao Hutong, Triple-Major, will host a flea market offering vintage clothes, accessories, samples and more. Several local fashion designers will be offering their stylish used threads. Doors open at 2pm. Take advantage as such markets are not frequent in Beijing. The location is both central and charming.

为庆祝国庆,Triple-Major将在10月1日当天把店的天台变成跳蚤市场。城中各时尚界人士将有自己的小摊档卖一些旧衣服或自己的小设计。

Dong Liang Studio, one of Beijing’s leading multi-brand shops focused on Chinese fashion designers, hosted the “Schoolmates Reunion Party & Indie Designer Autumn Collection Promotion”. Vega Wang, sporting a new hairdo, was one of the main designers with wears on offer at Dong Liang.

Queenie of the Jungle

Cat has been so unbelievably popular in Beijing in the last year. I even commissioned a leopard print dress shirt, that I wear with a repp tie and suit, just to attempt to keep up with the trend. Here is Time Out editor Queenie, prowling through the jungle that is Beijing. Can she be dominant here?

Pang Kuan Smashing an Apple Monitor

If the Creators Project had a climax, for me it was the smashing of an Apple monitor by Pang Kuan (庞宽), keyboardist and singer for New Pants, at the climax of the song “‘Sex, Drugs, Internet”. Judging by the visuals on the LED behind, the smashing had something to do with anger related to sex and the internet, but it seemed an ironic act at a project showcasing the meeting of design and technology. Though I like the music, the visuals were the main highlight of the show for me.

Cold Couples at Creators Project

Over the last three days, Beijing has finally stopped being stiflingly humid. People have clearly been itching to get out their warmer clothes. Vice‘s Creators Project was an opportunity to show off the coats, scarves, and hats that have been laying dormant for the last half year.

I have always found people in China more sensitive to cold (and less to heat) than in the States or other Western countries. I was sweating in a cardigan at the same event.

A Critic

Jel, from X+Q Sculpture Studio, had some interesting things to say about my blog, which I will translate when I have a chance. To summarize: While professing that she doesn’t really understand fashion, she says that the people appearing on stylites are all rather mainstream and bound to meet with the approval of the fashion crowd. Also she thats from the perspective of the Chinese, “fashion” really is something from the West, so my selections make a lot of sense.

“我对时尚不是很在行,纯粹是仗着身高撑个场面,乱穿一通让你见笑了。
