Sweetness up, Sexiness down

Overt sexiness has always seemed a bit out of place on Chinese girls themselves and on billboards throughout the country. Her appearance on the most recent cover of Vogue suggests Tang Wei is set to become everyone’s new fashion sweetheart.

Tang Wei gained fame for her controversial, seductive performance in Ang Lee’s film Lust, Caution, and she is now back with the Crossing Hennessy after two years. This is the second time she has been cover girl for Vogue and her sweet but possibly beguiling smile seems more alluring than the challenging sexiness of many Western stars and Zhang Ziyi, who has also been troubled by a charity donation scandal of late.
