Uma at Kama

Text and Photos:Suzy

Kama Love Festival, held this past weekend at the Olympic Park, was without a doubt the dustiest music festival so far this year. The above couple used the scarf that was the gift at the Uma Wang event to protect themselves from the blowing dust.

Here is my last batch of photos from Intro.

For me, this is retro. It reminds me of the the sort of image one might have seen three years ago on the cover of a report by some hip consultancy on consumption patterns in trends of youth in China. I guess it is the short, dyed hair that does it, plus the slightly inscrutable confidence.

Shark Attack

The singer Queen Sea Big Shark, she was just shot by renowned photographer Mario Testino for a profile likely to appear in the September issue of US Vogue. As you may have heard, there was an unprecedentedly huge delegation from that magazine in town last week interviewing, photographing, and generally making a footprint here in China. China is going to be one of the main themes for Vogue’s thickest issue of 2011.

Grand old Flag

But some just chose more patriotic patterns. Actually she had not considered the reference to the American flag until I mentioned it. Most commentators on Weibo also said that it would not have struck them though one mentioned that it is easier to draw inspiration from fashions of recent decades of America’s history than China’s. As I understand it, wearing the Chinese flag is not allowed.

The Merchants商人

At music festivals, the ragtag bunch of stuff sellers are as much an attraction for some as the music acts. This vendor made just a little over 300 RMB that day, which just covered her costs including tickets to the festival and food for the day. There was no rental fee at the outdoor market.

Her loafers are custom-made.

还有些草莓的图片。这个老板的收入那天300多。成本才100。
